Emma Slack
Faculty Memebr BIIE / Barclay-Williams Chair for Molecular Mucosal Immunology, Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford
Prof. Emma Slack is a Faculty Member at the Botnar Institute of Immune Engineering and the Barclay-Williams Professor of Molecular Mucosal Immunology at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology within the University of Oxford. Previously a Full Professor at ETH Zurich, Emma's research has revealed fundamental mechanisms of how antibodies function in the gut and control bacterial populations at mucosal surfaces. Her group develops innovative oral vaccine- and live-microorganism-based interventions to prevent serious infections, bridging fundamental immunology with synthetic biology and biophysics. At BIIE, her work focuses on creating accessible vaccine solutions particularly suited for low-resource environments and vulnerable populations including pregnant women and infants. Emma's translational approach has led to the founding of Baxiva, developing vaccines for urinary tract infections.
