Derek Mason

Project Director / Director of Research Operations

As Director of Research Operations at BIIE, Derek oversees the institute's core research facilities and provides operational support across multiple research groups. He also serves as Project Director for DeepIR - a flagship institute initiative focused on advancing machine learning applications in therapeutic discovery and development.

Prior to joining BIIE, Derek co-founded deepCDR Biologics, an ETH Zurich spinoff that pioneered the use of machine learning in therapeutic antibody discovery and engineering. Following its acquisition by Alloy Therapeutics, the company's technology became a core component of Alloy's antibody discovery platform.

Derek earned his PhD from the Laboratory for Systems and Synthetic Immunology at ETH Zurich's D-BSSE, where he developed expertise in computational approaches to immunology.
